In New Brunswick, Canada, a father of three lost custody of his children after a single judge ruled that his unvaccinated status was a danger to his children.
According to USA Today, the concerned father presented evidence to the judge that pointed out possible harmful effects of the Pfizer-BioTech vaccine, as proof that his concerns about taking the vaccine were valid. But Justice Nathalie Godbout, of the Court of Queen’s Bench, ruled against him by simply deferring to “public health officials” as being superior to his own research.
“His own anecdotal research on such a highly specialized topic carries little to no weight in the overall analysis,” Godbout wrote in her ruling, “when measured against the sound medical advice of our public health officials.”
The ruling placed all three children in the sole custody of their mother, and limited the father to only being allowed to see his children over Zoom. The judge noted that if he does decide to get vaccinated, then the sentence may be reevaluated in the future. However, the mother can now overrule the father’s lack of parental consent and may unilaterally decide to have all three children vaccinated.
The paranoia about children possibly catching the Chinese coronavirus, from unvaccinated individuals or otherwise, is not based in science. Numerous studies and ongoing trends have overwhelmingly proven that children are significantly less likely to even catch the disease, and those that do are often asymptomatic and unlikely to be hospitalized or die from the virus.
Nevertheless, the ongoing attempts to restrict individual liberties over vaccination status have resulted in widespread backlash in Canada. Since late January, tens of thousands of protesters, including thousands of truckers, have descended on the nation’s capital of Ottawa out of protest against vaccine mandates. The protests have since led to the reversal of several restrictive policies, including a proposed tax on the unvaccinated in Quebec, and the arrival of the protesters also saw Prime Minister Justin Trudeau flee the city in a panic.
